Quantify gaze patterns and eye movements
We know attention is limited. The eyes convey more than a hundred billion signals to the brain every second – that’s a huge amount of information to process and understand. For decades, researchers have considered the human eye a window to understand people’s behaviour and assess what is going on in the subconscious.
Our laboratory studies quantify people’s gaze patterns and eye movements such as saccades (quick movements), fixations (steady gaze), and smooth pursuit (following a moving object), to determine the relative importance of visual features. We use this to understand the viewer’s unconscious priorities when looking for task-relevant information.
Predict how designs will be perceived
Inspired by biology, we apply artificial neural networks (ANN) to create a prediction of how users will perceive a design in the first three to five seconds of viewing.
Our predictive models analyze over 1.6m data points across 20,000 experiments involving hundreds of participants to detect which design characteristics (such as luminance, edge density, saturation, structural architecture, and much more) evoke human attention within the first 3-5 seconds.
Our simulation is then validated against empirical eye-tracking studies, which have proven EyeQuant’s predictions to be 90% as accurate as conducting physical studies involving hundreds of participants.
